A “pinned comment” feature is a great addition to any app, since they serve as useful for several reasons. We’re going to explain what a pinned comment is, discuss why they are important, and show you how to pin a comment in the comment sections of your TikTok posts.
What Is a Pinned Comment?
Not every comment section has a pinned comment, but if it does, it’ll always appear right at the top or in the comment summary that’s visible from the feed. Typically, a pinned comment will have an additional text right above or next to the author’s text that says “pinned”. It may also have a little icon of a push-pin, illustrating that the comment is pinned.
Only creators can pin and unpin comments on their posts. And when they do, the author will get a notification to inform them that the creator pinned their comment; there is no notification for an unpinned comment.
What’s the Purpose of a Pinned Comment?
There are no features of an app that doesn’t serve a purpose, and pinned comments are no different. Let’s have a look at why creators choose to pin comments.
1. Creators Want Viewers to See Their Favorite Comment
Posting on TikTok is all about exposing viewers to what you want them to see, and this same concept can be applied to comments. Pinning a comment that made you laugh the most, or that simply made you feel good, will give viewers more insight into who you are as a creator.
2. Highlighting Important Information
Some commenters will make a summary of a post, especially if it’s long, which can help viewers conceptualize the content better.
Sometimes, a creator misses stating important information in the post. So, when someone comments that information, the creator will pin it to remind viewers of what they forgot to include. And when a viewer asks a question relating to the content, the creator can pin the comment so that their replied answer is easily visible near the top.
3. Highlight a Comment Thread
Similar to highlighting important information, a creator might want to pin a comment that extends into a thread where viewers discuss opinions and ideas relevant to the content.
4. Minimize Negative Comments
Online bullying is an unfortunate reality for many creators, but there are ways to keep abusive people at bay—pinning a comment is one of them.
A creator who receives hate can pick out a positive comment and pin it. Since it will be the first comment viewers see, it will most likely become the most-liked comment. This way, others might be more inclined to comment something positive as well.
5. Set the Overall Tone For the Comment Section
Regardless of the reasoning, a pinned comment will set the overall tone for the comment section—and potentially the post as well.
For example, pinning a funny comment will inform viewers that the creator has a good sense of humor and wants to convey that in their posts, and therefore the comment section will be more lighthearted. While pinning information texts lets viewers know that the creator takes the post seriously, and so it can start discussions.
How to Pin a Comment on TikTok
